Dornfelder

Dornfelder

Dornfelder produces wine far richer in color than is typical of German reds. Its huge popularity, which has been growing over the past two decades, makes the Dornfelder the most successful among the latest breeds of red wines. The wines are attractively fruity, dark red, and reflect a slightly southern temperament. The dry Dornfelder is a bold and robust red wine, whereas the semi dry Dornfelder is mellower and lighter. The Dornfelder Classic, in its decorative special-edition bottle, is a hearty, fruity, and full-bodied wine, which enjoys great popularity.

Gewürztraminer

young wine

Gewürztraminer is an old, traditional variety prized for its high quality. While it is frost-resistant, it needs very warm vineyard sites and soil with good drainage.  It begins to ripen around the end of September. Yields are quite variable and depend on weather conditions; hence it is cultivated more as a specialty than for its profitability. A Gewürztraminer late harvest has a distinct, pronounced bouquet and flavor that remind of lychees and roses.

Riesling

Riesling Nr. 13

Riesling enjoys a worldwide reputation as the king of white wines. It is the latest variety of all grapes, and only grows in the very best vineyards. When poured in the glass, a perfect Riesling provides unique delight due to its star-like sparkle. Riesling produces elegant wines of rich character with an incomparable fragrance and taste, often reminiscent of peaches, or when young, apples. Riesling can come very dry, dry, semi-dry and sweet. While good when young, it is often worth waiting a few years, if the wine is of high quality, to give it time to unfold its unique character.

Spätburgunder

Spätburgunder

Spätburgunder, a late Burgundy, which the French call Pinot Noir, is a particularly charming variety. This cream of the crop of red wines combines an elegant fruity fragrance with a berry or bitter almond bouquet, sometimes enriched with hints of exotic spices. Its consistency is particularly smooth, and the traditional German variety displays a fairly light color, body and acidity. Our estates offer five interesting varieties of Spätburgunder, ranging from mellow to dry. Especially the Spätburgunder blanc de noir is worth a try. It is very light in color (almost like white wine), because the grapes are pressed immediately after harvest and thus the color does not get extracted from the berries’ skin.

Weisser Burgunder, White Burgundy

winter

Weisser Burgunder, White Burgundy, synonymous with the French Pinot Blanc, has been gaining increasing popularity. This versatile wine, which is hearty, fruity, and relatively low in acidity, provides a pleasant accompaniment to many white and red meat and seafood dishes. Our estates produce both a slim White Burgundy as well as a heartier variety in a 0.75 liter bottle.
